Iron Man is an iconic superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Robert Downey Jr played the role of Tony Stark aka Iron Man who made his debut in 2008 with MCU’s first Iron Man movie. 

Many people are thinking about the return of Robert Downey Jr in Iron Man 4 which looks tough as his character has sacrificed himself in the Avengers: Endgame (2019) to defeat Thanos and his army. 

Fans wonder if that was the end of Iron Man’s era or if there is still some possibility of his return in the fourth Part.

Robert Downey Jr. is open to reprising his role as Iron Man

Although his contract with Marvel Studios ended with Avengers: Endgame, Robert Downey Jr. has not ruled out the possibility of returning as Iron Man in the future. In 2020, he said in an interview that “anything could happen” and that he was “always in for the ride.” He also hinted at a “surprising return” in a tweet in 2021. However, he also clarified that he was not desperate to play Iron Man again and that he was happy with how his character’s arc ended.

Who will be the next Iron Man in Iron Man 4?

There are many Marvel characters who can fit in the Iron Man suit. In comics, several characters have worn the Iron Man suit and inherited the legacy of Tony Stark. 

The characters introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) are James Rhodes/War Machine (Don Cheadle), Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), Harley Keener (Ty Simpkins), Morgan Stark (Lexi Rabe), and Riri Williams/Ironheart (Dominique Thorne). 

There are plenty of chances that any of these can potentially become the new Iron Man lead his lead his legacy to the next level.

There is no official announcement from the MCU team about Iron Man 4 release date but the legacy and impact of people’s hero Iron Man 4 could be seen in other MCU’s projects.  For example, Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) featured Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) as Peter’s new mentor after Tony’s death. Armor Wars (2022), a Disney+ series follows War Machine as he tries to stop Tony’s tech from falling into the wrong hands. Ironheart (2023) will be another Disney+ series that will introduce Riri Williams, a teenage genius who builds her own Iron Man suit. Such projects could also set up the stage for a possible Iron Man 4 movie in the future.

Iron Man 4 release date

Marvel Cinematic Universe has not officially announced anything about the Iron Man 4 release date. Some reports pointed out that if the movie ever going to be released it might begin in either 2024 or 2025. This would depend on several factors including Robert Downey Jr’s availability and interest. It would be interesting to see Marvel Studio’s plans and schedule and other related projects of the Marvel team.
