There is great news for all the South Cinema lovers as 2024 is going to be their year, as plenty of blockbuster movies are all set to fire at the box office and shatter some records as well. All the big stars and directors have geared up to come up with some thrilling and entertaining movies.

From action thrillers to romantic comedies, from science fiction epics to historical dramas, there is something for everyone in the upcoming South Movies 2024. Here are some of the most anticipated films that you should not miss.

Salaar: Part 2 – The Final Battle

The sequel to the blockbuster action film Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire, which is scheduled to be released in November 2023, will continue the story of Salaar (Prabhas), a ruthless gangster who is on a mission to take down his enemies and protect his love, Sita, portrays by Shruti Haasan. 

The film will feature some high-octane action sequences and a climactic showdown between Salaar and his arch-nemesis Bhairava portrayed by Jagapathi Babu. The movie is directed by Prashanth Neel, who is known for his KGF franchise, Salaar: Part 2 – The Final Battle is expected to be released in April 2024 in multiple languages.

Pushpa 2

The second part of the action drama Pushpa, which is scheduled to release in December 2023, will follow the journey of Pushpa Raj (Allu Arjun), a lorry driver who gets involved in the illegal red sanders smuggling business in the forests of Andhra Pradesh. The movie will deal with the dark and violent world, which is full of smugglers and their clashes with government enforcement agencies. 

The Pushpa 2 movie will star Rashmika Mandanna as Pushpa’s love, Fahadh Faasil as the main antagonist, and Vijay Sethupathi in a key role. Directed by Sukumar, who is known for his films like Rangasthalam and Arya, Pushpa 2 is expected to release in August 2024 in multiple languages1

Kalki 2898 AD

One of the most ambitious and expensive films ever made in India, Kalki 2898 AD is a sci-fi epic that depicts the futuristic world of 2898 AD, where humanity is on the verge of extinction due to a deadly virus. The film will revolve around Kalki (Prabhas), a mysterious man who claims to be the tenth avatar of Lord Vishnu, and his quest to save mankind from the evil forces led by Mahisha (Amitabh Bachchan). 

Deepika Padukone is also a part of the movie and Kalki falls in love with her. Disha Patani plays the the role of a rebel leader, and Kamal Haasan as a scientist. Directed by Nag Ashwin, who is known for his films like Mahanati and Yevade Subramanyam.

Hari Hara Veera Mallu

A historical action-adventure film set in the 17th century, Hari Hara Veera Mallu will narrate the life and exploits of Veera Mallu (Pawan Kalyan), a legendary warrior who fought against the Mughals and the British. The film will showcase some spectacular war scenes and naval battles, as well as some romantic moments between Veera Mallu and his lady love Komali (Niddhi Agerwal). 

The film will also feature Arjun Rampal as Aurangzeb’s son Muazzam, and Jacqueline Fernandez as a Portuguese princess. Directed by Krish Jagarlamudi, who is known for his films like Gautamiputra Satakarni and Kanche.

Game Changer

A sports drama based on the life and career of Indian cricketer MS Dhoni, Game Changer will chronicle his journey from a ticket collector to a World Cup-winning captain. The film will also highlight his personal and professional challenges, his achievements and controversies, and his retirement and comeback plans. The film will star Ram Charan as MS Dhoni, Kiara Advani as his wife Sakshi, and Anjali as his sister Jayanti. Directed by Neeraj Pandey, who is known for his films like A Wednesday and Special 26.

Devara

A romantic comedy with a twist, Devara will tell the story of Devaraj (Jr NTR), a happy-go-lucky guy who falls in love with Anjali (Janhvi Kapoor), a girl who suffers from short-term memory loss. The film will showcase how Devaraj tries to woo Anjali every day, as she forgets him every night. Some scenes in the movie will surely make you laugh and some emotional moments that will touch your heart. Directed by Trivikram Srinivas, who is known for his films like Athadu and Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo.

Martin

The thriller movie, Martin, aims to give a social message. In the movie, Martin will deal with cybercrime issues in the country and their impact on the lives of victims. The film revolves around Martin (Dhanush), a hacker who uses his skills to expose the corrupt and powerful people who exploit the common people. The film will also feature Sai Pallavi as Martin’s love interest, and Arvind Swamy as the main antagonist, who is a ruthless businessman and a mastermind behind a series of cybercrimes. Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, who is known for his films like Jigarthanda and Petta.

Bagheera

A psychological thriller with a dark and twisted plot, Bagheera will follow the exploits of Bagheera (Prabhu Deva), a serial killer who targets women who cheat on their partners. The film will also feature Amyra Dastur as Bagheera’s love interest, who is unaware of his true identity, and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar as a cop who is on Bagheera’s trail. Directed by Adhik Ravichandran, who is known for his films like Trisha Illana Nayanthara and Anbanavan Asaradhavan Adangadhavan, Bagheera is expected to release in April 2024 in multiple languages.

Vikram

A political thriller with a star-studded cast, Vikram will revolve around Vikram (Kamal Haasan), a retired cop who decides to take on the corrupt and criminal elements in society. The film will also feature Vijay as Vikram’s son and an aspiring politician, Fahadh Faasil as Vikram’s nemesis and a powerful gangster, Vijay Sethupathi as Vikram’s friend and a journalist, and Aishwarya Rajesh as Vikram’s daughter and a lawyer. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, who is known for his films like Kaithi and Master..

Thalaivi 2

The sequel to the biopic of former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa, Thalaivi 2 will continue the story of her political career and personal life after she became the chief minister for the first time in 1991. The film will depict her achievements and challenges, her relationship with her mentor MGR, her rivalry with Karunanidhi, her imprisonment and comeback, and her death in 2016. The film will star Kangana Ranaut as Jayalalithaa, Arvind Swamy as MGR, Raj Arjun as Karunanidhi, and Bhagyashree as Jayalalithaa’s mother. Directed by AL Vijay, who is known for his films like Madrasapattinam and Deiva Thirumagal.
