Mayur Madhvani: Everything about Uganda’s businessman who hails from India

Mayur Madhvani is an Indian-origin businessman, industrialist and entrepreneur based in Uganda. His latest designations are International Master of International Business and Company Law, International Master of Human Resource and General Management, and International Master Director of Human Resources and General Management in his company, Madhvani Group, which is also located in Kakira, Uganda.

Madhvani group is one of the largest conglomerates in Uganda and East Africa.

Early Life

Born in 1949, Mayur Madhvani was the youngest child of Muljibhai Madhvani (1894–1958). His father founded the Madhvani Group in 1930, and he took forward his father’s legacy.

Mayur has four elder brothers, and their names are Manjubhai, Pratap, Surender, and Jayant. Jayant was the eldest among all brothers who passed away in 1971 during his trip to India. The second eldest brother Manubhai, died at the age of 81 in 2012.

Madhvani Family left Uganda

Ugadanian dictator Idli Amin deported all the Asians from Uganda in 1972, irrespective of citizenship. Mayur left the country and shifted to London with his family.

Amin lost his power in 1979, and that was the return of the Madhvani family to Uganda to claim their assets in the country.

The family successfully recovered their flagship company, Kakira Sugar Limited, in the year 1985. KSW group became the largest refined sugar producer in East Africa when the Madhvani family took charge of the company. KSW group produces around 165,000 metric tonnes of Sugar annually, which is around 47 percent of the total output of the country. The company also led the co-generation of electricity in Kakira city, producing 52 megawatts and using 20 megawatts internally while the remaining is sold to the national grid. 

Madhvani group also set up an Ethanol distillery with a production capacity of 60,000 liters of Ethanol every day.

Mayur is also one of the wealthiest people in Uganda. He is part of the Madhavani Family, which is estimated to have a net worth of 1 billion dollars.

Mayur Madhvani Mumtaz Husband

Mayur married popular Bollywood actress Mumtaz in the year 1974. They both gave birth to two daughters, Natasha and Tanya.

His wife Mumtaz worked in Bollywood for many years, and she debuted at the age of 11 with the movie Sone Ki Chidiya in 1958. 

Mumtaz was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 54 and underwent six chemotherapies and 35 radiation sessions to overcome cancer.

Mayur’s daughter Natasha Madhwani married Bollywood actor Feroz Khan’s son Fardeen Khan in 2006, and he is the nephew of Akbar Khan and Sanjay Khan. 

The other relations of Mayur Mahdhvani are his niece Nimish Madhvani, sister-in-lay Malika Askari, and son-in-law Fardeen Khan.
